We would like to Share a story of how we met Jan.  
About 4 years ago, we stopped at our local McDonald's in Bennington VT - after golf - for a cup of coffee.  We were the only two people in the place.
We noticed a lady had arrived and approached the counter asking if they would re-heat the burger she had purchased earlier.    The lady  then came over to our table, sat down, and started telling us she had to leave earlier for an eye appointment and didn't have time to finish her burger.  
She then went silent.  
So, we, being who we are (talkative native New Yorkers), asked her name.  She simply said "Jan"   Then we asked where she was from - on and on it went.  
Jan then opened up and began to tell us she was a former Editor of Glamour Magazine in NY.   We mentioned that she sure represented Glamour well because she looked great!    We told her that our neighbor here in Bennington was a former Editor of House Beautiful and presently Editor at large.  It turns out they both had worked in the same building in NY.  
We chatted for a while and she then asked that we stop into visit with her sometime when we were in Manchester.  She gave us her address and phone number.
As the three of us left McD's.  Jan asked if we would help her find her Mercedes.   It was right there - next to our vehicle.  We laughed about it because there were so few cars in the lot.  
We said our good-byes.
Upon arriving home, we wrote Jan to let her know it was a pleasure meeting her.
We did call her once but there was no answer.  Our neighbor - the former Editor -  thought it would be great to meet her.
We were in Manchester often but never saw her car at the house.
Today, we were thinking  of and talking about Jan and wondered about her.  That is when we found her obituary.  
This was a woman we met only once and chatted with for about 1/2 hour - yet she left quite an impression on us.  
We were sorry to read of her passing.

She was graceful and loving and a lover of all God's creatures. She expressed her gratitude for life each and every day- "I couldn't ask for anything more". Member of the Dorset Church. Dedicated Reeces Peanut Butter Cup eater.
Memorial service to be held in the spring. Donations in her name would gratefully be received at - Visiting Nurse Service - Hospice House 101 Laurel Rd., East Northport, NY 11731.
