

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Lawrence H. Feigenbaum, at age 96, at his home in Melville, Long Island. Dr. Feigenbaum was an educator, author, editor and lecturer, who dedicated most of his professional life to the New York City public school system, where he served as a teacher and administrator. Dr. Feigenbaum was the principal of South Shore High School in Brooklyn and was also a lecturer in English at the City University of New York and LIU. In his later years, he worked in the professional outreach program at Kingsborough Community College. Dr. Feigenbaum was the author of several published works on reading comprehension and of several non-fiction books for younger readers covering a variety of topics.
Dr. Feigenbaum was a selfless and nurturing man who found ample time to raise a family in conjunction with his professional responsibilities. At times, he held three jobs simultaneously and worked 6 days a week plus some nights. He was an avid reader of the New York Times and enjoyed the theater and his travels within Europe.
Dr. Feigenbaum was a decorated World War II veteran who served in the European theater. He contributed editorial material to the Army's Stars and Stripes newspaper and acted as a French interpreter. His only sibling, Jules, was lost in battle in the Pacific in 1944.
Dr. Feigenbaum is survived by two sons, Harold and Arthur, as well as three grandchildren. He is mourned by his loving companion Rosemarie. His beloved wife of 49 years, Gloria, passed away in 1997.
