

Martin Hochheiser of East Islip passed away January 28,2024 at the age of 89. He is the beloved husband of 58 years to Marcia. He was the devoted father to Scott. He was born in Babylon, NY to his mother Rae and his father Alex. Martin after high school drove cross country to California where he worked as a teamster for Lee Iacocca the former executive at Ford. After two years he went to Cal Berkley College and studied education. He went to Brooklyn College and received a B.A. degree in Education. He later went to CW Post College where he earned his masters an doctorate degrees. He got a job as a cultural anthropologist teacher specializing in American Studies and taught in Brentwood schools for eight years before becoming a guidance counselor for the next 33 years. He worked for the Brentwood School District a total of 41 years. While in Brentwood one of his passions through the school was getting donations for senior citizens who did not have the money for a proper thanksgiving. He delivered meals to seniors along with other volunteers including his son Scott among them. Martin was recognized for all his years of coordinating and managing this effort by the Brentwood school district who named an award in his honor the Martin Hochheiser Humanitarian Award. The award is given out yearly to the student who exemplifies the effort. Martin was also very involved at B’nai Israel Reform Temple with youth groups. He was also a temple president. On a personal front Martin loved to bowl, and also play the game of bridge with his wife Marcia. Martin’s passions were his family, friends, NY Yankees baseball, going to Westbury Music Fair concerts, reading a good book, and also going to the beach. The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 1st at 1pm at IJ Morris, 21 E Deer Park Road, Dix Hills, NY 11746. Internment to follow at New Montefiore cemetery in Farmingdale. We will be sitting Shiva Thursday 4-7 and Friday 1-4 at B’nai Israel Reform Temple, 67 Oakdale-Bohemia Road, Oakdale, NY.
