It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Blumenreich, a cherished wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and endearing friend, who peacefully left us on December 24, 2024, at the age of 77.
Muriel was born on March 26, 1947, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, to the late Ethel and Alexander Greenberger. She moved to Long Island in 1975, where she built a life surrounded by family, friends, and a community that adored her, raising her family in Wheatley Heights (NY), Dix Hills (NY) and Scottsdale (AZ) after moving there in the mid-90’s.
Muriel’s family was her greatest joy. She married the late Ira “Gary” Blumenreich in 1970, and together they had three children, Joshua, Robyn, and Adam. As a devoted mother, she nurtured them with love and wisdom, imparting life lessons and instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and generosity. Muriel was a proud and doting grandmother to Emily, Alexander, Benjamin, Ilana, and Aviva, who filled her later years with immeasurable pride and joy.
Muriel was a woman of many talents and passions. She had a sharp mind and a creative spirit, enjoying drawing, painting, crossword puzzles, and cooking. Her home was always warm and welcoming, a place where family and friends gathered to celebrate holidays, share meals, laughter, and memories.
Muriel’s charitable spirit and compassion extended far beyond her family. In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of her beloved daughter, Robyn, Muriel and her husband, Gary, chose to honor Robyn’s memory by forming the Research Fund for Enzyme Diseases in Children dedicated to advancing education and funding research into Glycogen Storage Disease.
She is survived by her children, Joshua Blumenreich (Julianne) of Phoenix, AZ and Adam Blumenreich (John) of Westfield, NJ; her grandchildren, Emily, Alexander, Benjamin, Ilana, and Aviva; her sisters-in-law Ellie Greenberger and Sandra LeBoff as well as her cousin, Nancy Rosenthal (Andrew), and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Gary, and her brother, Norman Greenberger.
A funeral service will be held at IJ Morris in Dix Hills, NY on December 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Beth Moses in West Babylon. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Muriel’s memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brookdale Senior Living for their exceptional care, support, and dedication during Muriel’s tenure, providing comfort to her and her loved ones throughout her illness.
Muriel Blumenreich’s legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her. May her memory be a blessing.
