When Lori and I lost our mother, Sondra Thompson, in 2021, I remember thinking: we knew this loss was coming, that it was inevitable, and yet when it finally happened it felt impossible. And now I have the same thought about our mother's best friend, Renee.

When Sondra's health was declining, we would call Renee every day to report what was happening, and more often than not the news wasn't good. I remember one evening, in the middle of one of those reports, Renee called Sondra "my sister." That moment has stayed with me: they were so close for so long, sharing so many experiences (days at the beach, dinners, movies, Mah Jongg, tennis, countless hours of conversation on the phone, good times and dark ones) that they were, for more than sixty years, like sisters.

My last visit with her was just a few weeks ago: Lori and I visited her with Bob and Marcia. Bob could still make her laugh, but not even he could convince her to take her medicine, even when it was hidden in a tasty spoonful of yogurt. When Renee had made up her mind, no one could change it. Strong will or stubbornness, or both? Whatever it was, it was one of the many things we loved about her.

It's hard to imagine our world without her.

With love and deepest sympathy,
Bruce

Wonderful family visit with aunt Renee, June 28, 2026. She was delighted to share stories and laugh about old family memories. We will miss her.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She leaves behind a lifetime defined by profound strength, selfless devotion, and genuine kindness.

The quiet resilience she showed—staying strong so that everyone around her felt safe and supported, especially in the devoted care she gave your father and grandfather—was inspiring. She was a true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her, always offering warmth and steady loyalty.

May the many beautiful memories of her long, full life bring you all peace and comfort in the days ahead.

With loving sympathy,
Sherry Laino & Anita Marie Young
