Sandra “Sandy” Lewin passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving children, Caren and Allen. During her transition, she was never alone—a fitting farewell for a woman whose life was defined by love, strength, compassion, and warmth.
Born on December 13, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Sandy—lovingly known to many as Bubbe—was the true matriarch and glue that held her family together. She was celebrated for her quick wit, vibrant sense of humor, keen intelligence, and striking beauty. Known for her colorful outfits, great hair, and for never being seen without her lipstick, she brought light and energy into every room she entered. She was truly a legend who was loved by everyone fortunate enough to spend time with her.
Sandy built a beautiful life at North Shore Towers alongside her late husband, Arthur Lewin. Together, they shared over 25 happy years of marriage and traveled the world extensively. An avid reader of The New York Times, Sandy stayed sharply tuned into current events until the very end. You could always count on her for a laugh, a fun fact, or a sharp game of Mahjong or Jeopardy.
Sandy would have turned 94 this December. Her life was filled with joy, adventure, and immense nachas from her family.
She is remembered with deep love by her children, Caren and Allen; her daughter-in-law, Ellen; her brother, Elliot, and sister-in-law, Gladys; her grandchildren, Adam & Danielle, Randi & Matt, Parker, Emily, and Shimon & Meira; and her great-grandchild, Jackson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur; her cherished son, Phil Zwickler; and her son-in-law, Michael.
A service honoring Sandy’s life will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Beth Moses Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to The Phil Zwickler Charitable and Memorial Trust (honoring her late son, Phil) or to Northwell Hospice, whose compassionate care allowed her to transition peacefully and comfortably.
Shiva will be held at Caren’s home in Plainview, New York, Monday, October 5th through Thursday, October 8th. Please call Caren Levine for details.
