I was brought to tears when I read my good friend Sol Tappan passed. While volunteering at the Miami VA hospital my manager took me to a room with two veterans. We came to speak to one specifically I don't remember his name. I saw Mr. Tappan and he jumped in to our conversation. Something about Sol made me go back everyday before I left to go home. I visited Mr. Tappan everyday for four summers straight. He called me his great granddaughter by choice. He introduced me to everyone as his great granddaughter by choice. He said the best part of being his great granddaughter by choice is that you get to choose them, they're not given to you. I spoke to him about my future and he was like a father to me. With his advise and wisdom. He shared stories and I met 2 of his sons. I'll never forget him. I speak about him to everyone. I'm sorry for not going back to visit him frequently after I volunteered. He was a caring and amazing man. He will truly be missed!

Sol told me to call him by his first name shortly after I met him almost 3 yrs. ago.  We became friends as I saw him almost weekly at the Miami VA Hospital.  We shared things about our families, life experiences,etc.  He liked when I used Yiddish as he recalled some of it, too.
I will miss him.
