GROGIN, Vivian (nee Sokoloff) – age 90 of Troy, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Vivian (also known to family and many friends as “Evelyn”) was born on October 28, 1926 in the Bronx to Frank and Gussie Sokoloff. Vivian was a devoted wife and mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She met the love of her life, William Edward Grogin, at age 12 in Brooklyn. They were married on September 11, 1948 and shared 49 wonderful years together. They had two children, Neil and Eileen, whom they raised in Queens. Vivian especially enjoyed traveling with her husband William, particularly going on cruises and to Las Vegas. When she was younger, she worked for a newspaper in West Virginia, and later in life worked as a bookkeeper at Beech Hills Federal Credit Union and as a secretary at the Samuel Field YM-YWHA. Before relocating to the Albany area, Vivian lived in Smithtown, Long Island. She was an avid fan of Frank Sinatra. In fact, one of her fondest memories was actually meeting Frank Sinatra when she was 19 years old. Her greatest joy and source of pride was her family. She always loved being around children and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vivian was the beloved wife of the late William Edward Grogin and is survived by her loving children Neil (Paula) Grogin and Eileen (William) Hodrinsky, her cherished grandchildren Lori (Scott) Kramer, Adam (Shelly) Grogin, Jason (Brittany) Hodrinsky, her adored great-grandchildren Jordan, Taylor and Hayden Grogin, Lucas and Nathan Kramer and Ariana and Skylar Pagliuca, her dear and devoted sister Estelle and several nieces and nephews. Vivian is predeceased by two brothers, Martin and Stanley Sokoloff. A special thank you is extended to the entire staff of Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for the love and support they provided to Vivian throughout her final years in their care. May her memory be eternal. Funeral services will be held at I.J. Morris, Dix Hills, Long Island, on Sunday, August 6, 2017 commencing at 1:30 p.m. with interment to immediately follow at the New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Northeastern New York Chapter), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Save the Children.
