Juliette “Jules” Yvonne Sloan, age 58 of Shelbyville, Michigan, has entered into her heavenly home as of Friday June 5, 2026. A graduate from Gladwin High School class of 1986, she moved to the Grand Rapids area where she built a life of her own.
Married in June of 1996, Juliette was a loving mother of five children and a magnetic personality to all in her presence. She helped her husband run a real estate company for 30 years, and was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. In her life, she was known as a brilliant and imaginative hostess, scheduling a variety of parties, events, and holidays with memorable games and creative competitions. In every interaction, she was capable of connecting with every heart she met and had many friends from varied walks of life. She loved spending time on the lake with her family and friends, dancing and singing the night away with the same. Her adoration of Elvis was a secret to none, and her excellent music tastes were always on display at each party that was thrown. Her joyful laughter was infectious to all around her, and her genuine and faithful heart was encouraging to those with whom she spoke.
She was a dutiful, caring, and loving mother; the role most important to her. Her home was always clean and well-ordered, and her time at home was always spent making sure everything was organized and ready to receive guests at all times. She was always charitable and selfless; if she could not speak directly to them with words of encouragement, she would send messages and gifts to those who were in need. All that she did was informed by her faith in her Lord, Christ Jesus. God had granted her a kind and generous heart, and she was always sure to be grateful to God for his gifts to her. She preached the Gospel of Christ until the end, and her faith was a glorious and shining example for all to follow.
She is survived by her husband, Brett Sloan; children Jordan Sloan, Tabatha (Ross) Weaver, Amber Sloan (Mikey VanVels), Darin (Taylor) Walker, and Tryston Sloan; eight grandchildren Elijah Weaver, Dominic Weaver, Elleana Weaver, Emma VanVels, Jaxon VanVels, Hannah VanVels, Malcolm Walker, and Calvin Walker; mother, Sonjia Hock; siblings Robert (Charlotte) Benmark, Pamela Benmark, Faith Hock, Todd Benmark, Amy (Tom) Fuller, Ralph Hock, Brian Benmark, Justine Hock.
She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Pete Hock; father, Robert Benmark; and sister, Effie Christy.
We will be having a visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4125 18th St., Dorr, MI 49323. Her funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, June 11 at St. Peter’s, with visitation one hour prior to service.
