OBITUARY
Marilyn E. Bastian
August 24, 1929 – December 29, 2020
Marilyn E. Bastian, age 91 of Dorr, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 29, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Sylvia “Betty” Stigers and brother C. Jim Stigers. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Frank; their daughter, Mary; son, Paul Bastian; granddaughter, Rachel Taylor; two great-grandchildren Charlie and Bastian; sister-in-law, Marge Stigers; two nieces, one nephew, and their families.
Marilyn received her Bachelors and Masters in Education from Western Michigan. She taught school for 30 years, retiring from Kelloggsville Public Schools in 1985. Most of her teaching career - 21 years - was spent in the area of Special Education. Community service was a big part of Marilyn’s life. She was active in the Dorr Township Library, and the board, with several years as its president; she was on the Wayland Union School Board for 12 years, served as its treasurer and was on the Advisory Committee. She was active in the Allegan County School Board Association, serving for several years as its president. She and Frank were inducted into the Wayland Union alumni hall of fame and received an award for the Dorr Township citizen of the year.
Private family services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home. The family welcomes memories and messages in their online guestbook at kubiakcookdorr.com. Memorial contributions in Marilyn’s honor may be made to a local charity of one’s choice.

Marilyn was one of my first teachers at the one room Chapell School near Green Lake. I have good memories of her as a teacher.

Spent many hours with the Bastian family in my teen years. Frank and Marylyn were my inspiration to attend Ferris State and pursue my technical education. Our sincere condolences to you Frank, Mary and Paul. You have many fond memories to cherish.

Dear Mary and Paul,
So sorry to hear of the loss of your mother , such a good friend. I will always remember when your family visited me in Alaska back in the 1960's, and also my wife and I visiting your parents in Apache Junction, AZ., and in Dorr, MI.
