Marilyn Schurkamp went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2025 at the age of 92 years. Marilyn was born on September 14, 1932 in Muskegon, MI to Edwin and Marcella Workman. Marilyn met and married the love of her life, Donald Schurkamp, on April 6, 1950. When Don joined the Army, Marilyn stayed with her mother-in-law, Ruby Schurkamp, and found a waitressing job to help with the finances. As a young, married woman, Marilyn became the mother of five daughters, which kept her very busy, from bike riding to rustic camping up north as Don attempted to build their dream cabin. Once her daughters were grown, Marilyn began to enjoy bingo, crocheting, watching Westerns and volunteering at Project Hope in Dorr.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Donald Schurkamp, and her daughter, Donna Schurkamp-Sweers. She is survived by one brother, Brian Workman (Ruth); several half-siblings; four daughters Brenda Kool (John), Kay Herp (Jack), Lois Rottier (DJ), and Edwinna Schurkamp; son-in-law, Peter Sweers; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Her children wish to thank special caregivers Kris Northrop and Shannon Strader for their dedication over the years of love and care, and also Journeys Wings of Hope Hospice, as well as her granddaughter Carrie Wood - NP, for their help assisting her to pass peacefully.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 4330 18th Avenue, Dorr, MI. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 1084 76th Street SW, Byron Center, MI, with Pastor Mike Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at Dorr Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wings of Hope Hospice. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.kubiakcookdorr.com in their online guestbook.
