Fish; brother, James W. Prenatt Jr.; brother-in-law, Michael Klinkner; and two grandsons Weston and Jameson Prenatt. Surviving are his wife, Debra M. Prenatt (Fish); daughter, Shannon (Tony) Morris; sons Shawn (Mindi) Prenatt and Cody (Taylor) Prenatt; brother, Michael (Donna) Prenatt; sister-in-law, Tracey Klinkner; and grandchildren Carter, Aleigha, Sidney, Peyton, Kendall, Lacey, and Lennon; along with several nieces and nephews.
Steve was born in Anderson, Indiana November 8, 1959. During his childhood and into his teen years, he enjoyed 4-H and livestock on the family pig farm. Sports were a passion for him; he played football, basketball, and baseball. Steve graduated from Highland High School in 1978. After high school, he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he worked until his retirement at Westinghouse/The Knoll Group. It was there his future mother-in-law introduced him to the love of his life, Deb. They married April 19, 1980 and settled in Dorr, Michigan. They raised three children there.
In his spare time, Steve enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors, coaching pony league baseball, running the Dorr baseball program, watching and coaching his children in sports, helping to organize the Fourth of July parade in Dorr, watching Nascar, the Little League World Series, the PBR and Dr Pol. Nothing made Steve happier than spending time with his family. He loved going horseback riding with Deb in his younger years, playing with his grandchildren, cheering his kids and grandchildren on in school and sports. Steve’s hobbies included making picture frames, taking care of his yard, going to auctions and antiquing with his brother, making the best bonfires, playing horseshoes and cornhole with his family and friends, and games of euchre, Uno, and chess with his children and grandchildren.
In March of 2021, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Steve bravely endured many hard treatments in order to have as much time as possible with Deb, his children, grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law.
A funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home (Dorr Chapel), 4330 18th Street, Dorr, MI 49323, with visitation from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. prior to the service. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.kubiakcookdorr.com in their guest book online.
