
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel and will be officiated by Rev. Jerry Hood. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to service time. At other times the family will gather at 6 Woodmere Drive.
Pallbearers will be Michael Whitehead, Keith Peterman, Spencer Sanders, Jim Adams, Captain Bryan Stewart, and Rhett Sanders.
Mrs. Dawsey was born on August 9, 1916, to John Henry and Nancy Elizabeth Rogers. She had six brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. She attended school at Rehobeth High School.
She was married to the love of her life, Morice Green Dawsey for sixty-six years until his death on September 20, 2000. She spent most of her adult years as a homemaker, and she especially loved gardening and cooking for her family. Later in her life she was employed by the Houston County Board of Registrars. Mrs. Dawsey was a member of Mt. Enon Baptist Church for the past sixty-two years.
Mrs. Dawsey is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Edwin Whitehead (Dothan) and Nancy and Ernest Brown (Ocala, Florida); four grandchildren, Tammy (Keith) Peterman (Dothan), Michael (Tara) Whitehead (Boynton Beach, Florida), Kathy Terrell (Houston, Texas), and Jim (Faye) Adams (Tampa, Florida); seven great-grandchildren, Spencer (Whitney) Sanders (Dothan), Scotty Calloway (Houston, Texas), Amanda (Bryan) Stewart (Ft. Stewart, Georgia), Brittan Sanders (Dothan), Alexa, Kelsey, and Slater Whitehead (Boynton Beach, Florida); and seven great-great grandchildren, Ava, Emma, and Bennett Sanders; Bryson and Hudson Stewart; and Sean and Kurt Calloway; and also several nieces and nephews.
The family especially thanks the staff and employees at The Terrace at Grove Park as well as Covenant Hospice. Thank you also to Mrs. Ruby Merrill, a special friend of Mrs. Dawsey’s and of the family.
