
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street. Rev. Floyd Enfinger will officiate with Rev. Gary Stringfellow and Scott Beumer assisting. Her son, Al Griggs will also share expressions from the family about their mother. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Mrs. Griggs was born December 22, 1920, in Dale County, Alabama to Samuel Alford and Flossie LeRoy Brown. She moved with her parents to Dothan at six weeks of age and attended Dothan City Schools. On February 22, 1941, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Rev. William H. Griggs in Chipley, Florida. They had been married for 56 1/2 years at the time of his death in 1997. They had three children, Al Griggs, Kay Griggs Spradling and Wyatt Griggs all of Dothan. Rev. & Mrs. Griggs served numerous Methodist Churches in the Alabama-West Florida Conference during his 43 year Ministry. Rev. Griggs was serving the Grimes United Methodist Church at the time of his death.
Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by her parents, her only sister, Norma Jean Brown Fox, of Montgomery and the love of her life, Rev. William H. Griggs.
Mrs. Griggs is survived by her children: Al Griggs (Trish), Kay Griggs Spradling (Ross Flowers) and Wyatt Griggs (Jan) all of Dothan. She is, also, survived by eight grandchildren: Joy Bishop (Todd) of Daphne, Matt Griggs (Becky) of Dothan, Amber Coleman (John) of Dothan, Katrine Cherry of Dothan, Kristy Malone (Andy) of Daphne, Jason Griggs (Ana) of Rehobeth, Mary-Ryan Thomas (Berry) of Mississippi and C. J. White (Leigh Ann) of Mobile and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following: Hugo Griggs, brother-in-law, Evelyn Wicker, Sara Elliott and Shirley Dismukes, sisters-in-law, numerous neices and nephews and a special cousin, Colleen Logan.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Matt Griggs, Jason Griggs, John Cherry, Berry Thomas, Danny DuBose and Tommy Danford.
Mrs. Griggs wanted to express a special message to her "Carrot Top", Austin Cherry, that she enjoyed all the special times spent with him and that she loved him dearly!
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the following: the wonderful nurses and staff of Henry County Health & Rehabilitation, Alacare Home Health & Hospice, Deep South Home Medical Equipment, Dr. Rick Bendinger and a special caregiver, Daisy Miller. We are grateful for all that you have done for our loved one!
