Albert Neil Jerkins, a sharp-dressed gentleman, dedicated civil servant, and passionate bibliophile, has passed away at the age of 87. Neil entered the world on July 31, 1939, in Austell, GA, born to Albert Noah Jerkins and Mavoureen Mozley Jerkins.
A proud member of his community, Neil made local history as part of the very first class to spend all four years at the newly built South Cobb High School, graduating in 1956. His classmates voted him "best-dressed," a title he spent the next seven decades effortlessly maintaining. Neil possessed a unique style that balanced classic modesty with delightful quirks, always taking immense pride in a well-curated outfit.
After a fulfilling 35-year career with the USPS, Neil retired to spend time on the things he loved most. He turned his sharp mind toward book collecting, surrounding himself with a massive library of thousands of books. When he wasn't reading, Neil could be found indulging his passion as a car enthusiast, happily spending hours behind the wheel.
His legacy lives on through his surviving family: his children, Jeffery Neil Jerkins, Montgomery Matthew Jerkins, Grant Kyle Jerkins, and Amanda Grace Beam; and his sisters, Judy Garner and Susan Holland. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Neil joins in rest his first wife, Joann Williams-Daniel; his parents; and his sisters, Ruth Reid and Mary Alice Hunter.
Family and friends will gather for a brief memorial service at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville, GA on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
