

Barbara was born on August 26, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Theodore “Ted” Gratton Hunton and Mrs. Claudia May Pitts Hunton. From a young age, Barbara loved being creative, spending time outdoors, and being with her family.
Barbara had many talents. She enjoyed crafts like chair caning and making pine straw baskets by hand. She also loved gardening and took great care of her vegetable and flower gardens.
Barbara was also an amazing cook and baker. She started her own business, Barbara’s Catering, which became well known in her community for its delicious food and warm, welcoming spirit. Whether she was cooking for a big event or just her family, Barbara always put her heart into every meal. Barbara retired from from Douglas County School System transportation
Sundays were special in the Laird home. Every week, the family gathered for big Sunday dinners that Barbara cooked with love. These meals were filled with laughter and became a tradition that meant a lot to everyone.
Barbara also loved animals, especially her rescue dog, Maddie, who was a loyal companion to her in her later years.
Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and strong love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of care, skill, and love that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Bruce Laird, Sr., her granddaughter Katie Jackson, her brothers Bob Hunton and Terry Hunton, and her brother-in-law Bill Cooper.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bruce E. Laird, Jr. and his wife Julie, Bobby D. Laird and his wife Leslie; daughters, Cindi Wheeler and her husband Edwin, Bonnie S. Welch and her husband Vick. Grandchildren, April Hembree, Brittany Deuster, Jill Sosebee, Jeana Hatcher, Melissa McCollough, Delaina Wheeler, Travis Laird, Amber Laird, Joseph Welch, Jessica Tyson, Joshua Welch; sisters, Pat Cooper, Charlene Alfone, Vicky Head and her husband Richard, Helen Hunton, and numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren and great great grands.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 3:00 pm from Union Grove Christian Church with Pastor Mike Mallory officiating.
A visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.
Barbara will be laid to rest in the Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Joe Welch, Josh Welch, Jonathan Tyson, Joey Wheeler, Jesse Sosebee, Matt Deuster, Austin Gore, and Preston Gore. Travis Laird will serve as honorary pallbearer.
