

Bernadine spent much of her life caring for others through her work as a nurse. She earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification from the Maxine Waters School in Los Angeles, California, beginning a career devoted to helping and caring for those in need. Known for her strength and determination, she worked hard throughout her life to provide for her family and to ensure that her children stayed in school and had every opportunity to succeed. Her devotion to her family was the center of her life.
She found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those who knew her will always remember how her face lit up whenever she saw them. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like watching nature and relaxing with some of her favorite TV shows, including westerns like “The Rifleman” and science-fiction programs.
Above all, Bernadine will be remembered as a strong and loving woman whose life was defined by hard work, care for others, and deep love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.
Bernadine is survived by sons, Donnie Tasker and Jaque Cook; daughters, Bridgette (Frederick) Roberts, Bernadette (Mervin) Douglas and Christine Cook; sisters, Ernestine Crayton, Rosemary Mack and Audrey Patterson; grandchildren, Sabrina (Troy) Clements, Frederick (Destiny) Roberts, Christopher (Simone) Roberts, Cameron Roberts, Spencer Cook, Cheyenne (Matthew) Hampton ,Adriana Douglas, Alexis Bouvay, Brianna Douglas, Makayla Tasker and Aaron Douglas; great grandsons, Khoy Clements, Christopher Roberts Jr, Ezra Roberts and Matthew Hampton Jr; and great granddaughters, Khaylin Clements, Khylin Clements, Milan Tasker, Neemah Roberts, Iyanah Roberts, Zaida Roberts, Alani Stanford and Cayden Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Cook; parents, Bernard and Adriana Lewis; brother, Joseph Lewis “Brotha”; sisters, Adriana Greely “Sista”, Viola Tate “Meany”, Shirley Wallace; son, Clarence Cook Jr; daughter, Sabrina Cook and granddaughter, Salina Tasker.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner Funeral Home Monday, March 23 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A celebration of Bernadine’s life will be held in the chapel of Whitley Garner Funeral Home Monday, March 23 at 1:00 pm. In accordance with her wishes, Bernadine’s body will be cremated.
