During his younger years, Billy was a worker at the local sawmill and enjoyed carpentry. A devout Christian, he read his bible every morning and enjoyed doing missionary work. He and his late wife were long-time members of First Presbyterian Church in Douglasville. A history buff, he was knowledgeable on many wars and Camp Toccoa where he grew up. He was a passionate Republican and ran Polls for over 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, gardening, tinkering with his lawnmower and cars, and feeding the birds. He was a generous man and donated to different charities often. A hard worker, he achieved the title of Service Manager with Owens Illinois Glass Containers where he worked for 37 years. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife of 66 years, Lucy Virginia “Jean” Rider; his parents, Frank and Mae Rider; and siblings, Betty Lovingood, Bonnie Eller, Claude Rider, and Marylene Rider.
Survivors include his children, David Randall Rider and his wife, Linda, of Douglasville, Dwight Ronald Rider of Palm Bay, Florida, Christopher Scott Rider and his wife, Tracy, of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Mary Beth Rider of Douglasville; his sister, Sara Mae Holbrook; grandchildren, Ethan David Rider, Mackenzie Brooks Sautter and her husband, Daniel, Peter Nguyen, and Michael Nguyen; 3 great grandchildren, Rayanna Gale Rider, Haleigh Hembree, and Phoebe Jean Sautter; and numerous other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church, 9190 Campbellton St. Douglasville, Ga 30134, on Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A funeral service will be held following at 3:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
