Carlos was unapologetically himself: compassionate, silly, competitive and a great leader. Carlos' reputation preceded him throughout his life. As a baby, Carlos was happy and found joy in learning. When we would learn something new, his face would show it. He carried this same expression throughout his child and adulthood. Growing up, he loved being a big brother. He treated his siblings like they were his own children and helped them develop into the amazing people that they are today.
Carlos had infinite compassion for his family, friends, animals and strangers. His huge heart was evident to those around him and to meet him was to love him. He was very accepting of others and never felt the need to be negative. He was not only someone you could count on to always be there, but he also became a brother to you. Carlos went by many loving nicknames including Lito, Junior, Poop, Poochi Poochi and Papi.
Carlos was a very hands on kind of person and enjoyed learning the mechanics of things. Ever since a young age, he would take things apart and put it back together. He loved motorcycles and everything car related (especially F-18's); he could hear a car coming down the street and know the make and model before you could see it.
Carlos had a passion for cooking - he found satisfaction in knowing that people loved his food. Carlos knew that the best kind of meal is a shared meal. He'd gather friends, family members, strangers and the like to join in fellowship and breaking bread. He grew his own herb and vegetable garden to have fresh ingredients to share with others.
Carlos was a natural born leader and used his competitive spirit as a motivational tool. He knew when to push you and when to ease off. He believed in never giving up, taking others under his wings and truly teaching. When teaching others, he wasn't the type of person to supervise; he would roll his sleeves up and show you how to do it.
Carlos' memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Hannah Gunter Mota; parents, Carlos and Lisa Mota; brother, Raymond Maynard; sisters, Carlissa, Amanda and Brianna Mota; grandparents, Peter and Agnes Maynard, Roberto Carasco and Modesta Herrerra; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his fellow Marines. His pit bulls, Nala Girl and Mila, the family pets, Vinny, Diesel and Leo, are all blessed to have had Carlos in their lives.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the Rosehaven Chapel with Chaplain Sam Braswell officiating. The Mota family will have a "treasure box" to leave a photo of how Carlos has touched your life. Please help them fill this box with your memories to help them treasure the impact that he had on the world.
The Mota family would like to give special thanks to the United States Marines, SSgt Beau Olson and SSgt Mike Weber for helping to care for Carlos and also helping his family members through a very difficult time. You have made things possible.
