I read this today from Mary Oliver, it speaks my feeling for my dear friend on 40 years,

Where has this cold come from?
"It comes from the death of your friend."
Will I always, from now on, be this cold?
"No, it will diminish, But always
it will be with you."
What is the reason for it?
"Wasn't your friendship always as beautiful as a flame?
The memories of you will keep me warm till we meet again, dear friend, rest in peace and give Richard our love.

Fond memories of our beloved Carolyn. In 1985, we met Carolyn as our new property manager of our Carriage House on Hasell Street in Charleston, SC. Our friendship quickly blossomed & on our annual visits from Boston we had many shared good times with her & Richard. Restaurants, back yard parties, birthday celebrations, meetings, theatre, boat touring on Charleston harbor, furniture shopping, just a few of the long list of many hours we shared together. Phone conversations were weekly when not together in Charleston & shared her love of gardening & had that mutual interests & of course lots of laughs. Carolyn also had a spiritual side to her that was deep & moving. We also had a few hilarious moments such as police drawing guns @ the Carriage House when they thought we were breaking into our own property!! A big 70th birthday party for Carolyn was held @ 60 Hasell Street estate & final surprise birthday party for her before she moved to Douglasville. Wonderful & loyal friend & felt she was more like family because we loved her so. She will always remain in our hearts & not a day will go by that something will happen to remind of our beloved Carolyn whom will be truly missed. RIP Love, Dan & Jamie Vara
