Mrs. Carrole St. Michel died on May 1, 2020 in Douglasville, Georgia with her husband and four sons at her side. She was born on December 25, 1941 in Philip, South Dakota to Elizabeth T. (Thiemann) Burns and Robert M. Burns. She was a wonderful Christmas Present and was born at the first hospital in Philip.
Carrole loved being a Wife, Mother and Grandmother. After graduating in 1960, she met this sweet, young Airman, Ronald St. Michel, and they were married a year later. Being a military wife was wonderful, although you did not have your own family close, you had your Military family.
Carrole did not work until the children were older because Ron was gone TDY a lot and they did not want their children brought up in daycare. She always volunteered as room mother, Cub Scout leader, and enjoyed football, soccer, wrestling, baseball and music competitions. She also volunteered at her Catholic Parish’s PSR, R.C.I.A., Wedding Coordinator, and Stewardship. She also decorated for Funeral Receptions and started their Senior Group, Money Counter and the (Rascals) to name a few.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert M. Burns and her mother, Elizabeth T. (Thiemann) Burns; sisters, Janice W. Mahaney, Roma B. Denman, and Arla M. Fenner; and brother, John D. Burns.
She is survived by her husband of 58 wonderful, joyful years, Ronald St. Michel. They would have celebrated 59 years on May 13th. Carrole is also survived by a brother, Robert Burns of South Dakota; four sons, Kevin and Sheila St. Michel of CO, Kelly and Missy St. Michel of MO, David St. Michel of CO, and Robert and Dawn St. Michel of GA; 11 grandchildren, Breanne, Tyler, Trevor, Steven, King, Kami, Kyle, Breanne B. Karl, Sheldon and Craig; 15+ great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM. A private Mass will be held. She will be laid to rest in Canton, Georgia at the Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Carrole to the St. Theresa Building Fund, 4401 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135.
