She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 21, 1933, daughter of the late Guy Junior Gittens and the late Edna Clyde Daniel. She had a lifelong love of reading and when she could no longer see to read books, she listened to audio books. Christine was known to everyone as “Granny Smith”. She loved her kids and grandchildren…they were her world. She loved nothing better than cooking for her family at family gatherings and on holidays.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Ernest Frederick Smith, Sr.; daughter; Jeanie "Bitsy" Ramsey, siblings; Frances Raines, Lois Ayers, Buddy Gittens, Jr., Freddie Gittens, Jean Johnson, and David Gittens.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son; Fred Smith, Jr., daughters; Janie Pilcher, and Mickie (Margaret) Meyers; brother, Lamar Gittens; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
