

She was born in Calhoun, Georgia on March 5, 1924, the daughter of the late Hugh O. Leonard and Annie Rhoda Cagle Leonard. Mrs. Ray was a proud alumni of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She had a servants heart and spent many years working as a nurse’s aide at the Villa Rica Hospital. She was a member of the Bright Star Methodist Church for over thirty years. Mrs. Ray loved her church and found great comfort in her membership. She was a member of the senior group, Hilltoppers that included members from several surrounding churches. Her time spent volunteering with the school, PTA and cafeteria was most enjoyable while her children were in school. Mrs. Ray was also an avid gardner and a phenomenal cook. She was a beloved caring mother, grandmother and friend. Her children and her grandchildren were her ultimate joy.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Raffi Standifer, Douglasville, Georgia, sons and daughters-in-law, Michael, Jr. and Lisa Ray, Atlanta, Georgia, Charles Ray, Sharpsburg, Georgia, Edward and Beth Ray, Snellville, Georgia; grandchildren, Emily and Michael Standifer, Douglasville, Georgia, Julia Ray, Rebekah Ray, Ella Ray, Snellville, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ray is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Ray, daughter, Kathleen Ray, sisters, Viola Erwin, Teola Davis, Mary Johnson, Brothers, Walter Leonard, Olen “Pete” Leonard, Oscar Leonard, and T. C. Leonard.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Thursday February 22, 2024 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m and the entombment will follow in the mausoleum in Rosehaven Cemetery.
