David Royce Daniell quietly slipped from this world to the next on Tuesday, October 13 while he was surrounded by family and loved ones at Tranquility Hospice in Austell just around the corner from where he grew up on Mable Street in Mableton, South Cobb High School where he met his wife of more than 65 years, and where he raised his family amidst a community that surrounded him all his life.
Born in Atlanta, GA on April 27, 1940 to Billy and Elsie Daniell, David was the oldest of their six children. Growing up, David was a standout first baseman on Mableton baseball and South Cobb High School teams. He and his brothers were taught blacksmithing by their father who had learned from his own father following several generations of blacksmiths in Mableton.
David was blessed with the gift of an especially beautiful and sonorous bass singing voice. All throughout his youth and as a young adult, he sang in barbershop quartets along with his brother Curtis who sang tenor. It was in the high school Glee Club where he met Charlene White who became his wife and perfect partner in life. His singing never stopped and his distinctive bass was the foundation for years of church choirs, and most beautifully at Daniell family gatherings - especially the cherished family Christmas singing tradition.
David’s livelihood was always rooted in the community. A United States Air Force veteran, David retuned home to Mableton where he served in the town Fire Department. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a route carrier which took him through Mableton neighborhoods for decades where he was recognized as he gave his characteristic wave as he dropped off mail to a couple of generations of Mableton families.
Above all David was the very picture of what it meant to be a family man. Everything he did, was for his family whether it was taking on another job when times were little tighter, coaching years of baseball and softball teams, decades of deer hunting with lifelong friends and his son Torre, being the foundation for years of family camping, boating, waterskiing - David and Charlene made sure that above all else they gave their family the sturdiest of foundations and beloved memories to last forever. In December 2025, David and Charlene Daniell celebrated 65 years of marriage. David was the rock of his family. He will be so missed but as with everything he did, he did what he needed to do and he made sure that his family has everything that they will need to carry on. David’s role as “Dad” to Lyric, Tiffany, and Torre, and as Granddaddy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren stands firmly as his most solid and enduring legacy.
David is survived by his siblings, Sue, Peggy, Kim, and Kevin; his daughters, Lyric Garten (Jay) and Tiffany Griffin (Chris); his son Torre Daniell (Susie); his grandchildren, Cameron (Jamie), Kristin (Brett), Ian, Tricia (Jake), Spencer, and Lance; and his great-grandchildren Grant, Griffin, and Collins. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 65 years Anita Charlene White Daniell; parents Billy and Elsie Daniell; his brother Curtis Daniell; and his son-in-law Alan Resmondo.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by the service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. and burial to follow at Rosehaven.
