David Holcombe was a devoted educator, faithful servant, outdoorsman, craftsman, husband, and friend whose life was marked by dedication to his family, his community, and the many people he touched throughout his years.
He graduated from Bowdon High School in 1959 and went on to attend West Georgia College before graduating from the University of Georgia in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1976, he earned his Master of Education from West Georgia College.
David dedicated 35 years of his life to education, serving as a high school teacher, coach, and administrator. He retired from the Douglas County School System in 1999. Through his years in education, he had the opportunity to influence and encourage generations of students and athletes.
A man of strong faith, David was a member of the Baptist faith and was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Douglasville in 1982. His faith and service to his church were an important part of his life.
David enjoyed all sports, but he especially loved the outdoors and hunting quail, deer, and turkey. He was also a skilled woodworker who enjoyed working with his hands and creating things. Some of his most cherished times were spent traveling with his beloved wife, Bobbie, sharing adventures and making memories together.
David Holcombe will be remembered for his dedication to education, his love of the outdoors, his faith and service to others, and the many lives he touched throughout his life.
David is survived by his wife, Bobbie Hair Holcombe; children, William Jefferson Holcombe and Julie Michelle Holcombe; grandchildren, Madeline Grace Morgan, J.P. Morgan and Maura Cate Morgan; stepson, Frank Le Hair and step grandchildren Luke Hair and Emma Hair.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis Holcombe and Verna Gertrude Holcombe Stephens; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Holcombe Baxter and his stepson, Clayton Maxwell Hair.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner Funeral Home Friday, October 2, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, October 2, at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Bowdon Cemetery on Friday, October 2, at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Alpha Sunday School class, First Baptist Church, Douglasville.
