Mr. Bill Long, age 74, of Austell, Georgia, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020. He was born in Miccosukee, Florida on July 31, 1945. Mr. Long loved to be active. He enjoyed fishing, yardwork, and tinkering with machinery. If he got a new lawn mower he would no sooner take the whole thing apart and put it right back together, save for a few pieces. If he couldn’t put something back together correctly, he would do what his family calls “Bill Long it.” Mr. Long was a printer by trade, but also worked construction on the side. One of his greatest achievements was building his own home, starting with drawing up the floor plans. He was able to complete 85% of his home all by himself.
Mr. Long was a funny man and liked to tease his loved ones. He was a huge baseball fan – Go Braves! He also liked to cook; breakfast was his favorite. He was a man of faith and belonged to the Baptist Denomination.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” – John 14:1-4
Preceding him in death were his son, William Dustin Long; his parents, William Long, Sr and Hazel Long; and his sister, Camille Vione Rutland.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Pamala Long; his daughters, Daphne (Ben) Martin and Candi (Lawrence) Cowley; his step children, Jeff Justice, Elaine Pannell, ReNey Duke, and Christy Duke; his sister, Betty Ann Barclay; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
There will be a private family graveside service held on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville, Georgia.
