Francis Henry Mentz

Mr. Francis Henry Mentz, age 91, of Douglasville, GA passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. He was born April 14, 1927 in Fairbault, MN and raised there. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a doctor of pharmacy. Francis was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Douglasville. He served on the church council, was a Sunday School teacher as well as usher at his church. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Francis enjoyed golf and travelling. His favorite pastime however, was spending time with his wife, nieces, nephews and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alwin and Bertha Mentz; brother, Marlin Mentz and brother-in-law, Charlie Smith.

Surviving him is his wife, Billie Lee Mentz; nieces and nephews, Stephen (Virginia) Mentz, Detlef (Amy) Mentz, Andrea (Perry) Mitchum, Tara Lynn (Rick) Douds and Kerry (Cheryl) Smith; great nieces and nephews, Bethany Mentz, Tristan Mentz, Emil (Kirby) Mentz, Emily Mentz, Andrew Mentz, LeAndra Douds, Charlie Smith and Sarah Smith.

The family wishes to express their gratitude at the care that was given from all the staff at Wellstar Douglas Hospital ICU during his stay there.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 o’clock am at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Douglasville, GA. Interment will take place in Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Mentz/s memory to Lutheran Services of Georgia, or to Lutheran Hour Ministries,
