Glenda Jean Shealy

As a lifelong believer in the importance of education, Mrs. Shealy earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of West Georgia. She dedicated more than 33 years to shaping the lives of countless students throughout her teaching career. She served at Waco Elementary, Bill Arp Elementary, Arbor Station Elementary, and ultimately retired from Mount Carmel Elementary, where she was admired by colleagues, students, and families for her dedication, and love of teaching.

Beyond her career, Glenda found her greatest joy in her family. She excelled at being "Grammy" and cherished every opportunity to watch her grandchildren grow. She eagerly anticipated the birth of her first great-grandchild, a blessing that filled her with excitement and hope.

An avid reader, she could often finish a book in just a day or two. She found peace, relaxation, and happiness with a good book in hand on the beach. She loved laughing, talking, and making lasting memories with those she loved. Holidays and special occasions were among her favorite times of the year. She celebrated each one with enthusiasm and decorated her home and prepared treasured family recipes that created traditions and memories her family will cherish for generations.

Her kindness, warmth, love, and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all whose lives she enriched, but her love, laughter, and the memories she created will live on in their hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Shealy of Villa Rica, GA; children, Gina Shealy of Dover, DE; Brett (Kyla) Shealy of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, Mason (Kenna) Henry of Douglasville; Cole (Molly and Baby Hays) Henry of Ohio; Clayton Henry of Buchanan, GA; Kylie Henry (Austin) of Statesboro; Starsha Shealy of Whitesburg; Ben Kennard of Douglasville, Jack Shealy of Douglasville, Zane Shealy of Whitesburg; sister, Patricia Ayers of Buchanan and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Jean Jones and son, Justin Shealy.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and staff at DaVita Dialysis for the exceptional care and kindness they provided.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Shealy was cremated. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Whitley Garner Funeral Home Sunday, August 16 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
