Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Harold spent much of his childhood and youth in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he graduated from Boyd H. Anderson High School as a member of the Class of 1975. Shortly after graduation, he and his family moved to Austell, Georgia. He later spent most of his life in Douglasville before residing in Carroll County during his final years.
In his younger days, Harold enjoyed boxing and martial arts, pursuits that reflected his strength, discipline, and determination. As the years passed, he found joy in quieter passions, especially gardening, where he took pride in nurturing life and creating beauty with his hands.
A devoted animal lover, Harold had a special appreciation for all kinds of creatures. Whether it was dogs, birds, or the occasional encounter with a snake or alligator, he was fascinated by the natural world and never lost his curiosity about the animals around him.
Harold was a passionate writer who used his words to share his faith, advocate for individuals with disabilities, and explore questions of morality and personal responsibility. A devoted Christian, he read his Bible daily and found strength and guidance in his faith throughout his life. Those who knew Harold knew he was a fighter. That determination was part of who he was long before life's challenges tested him and remained with him throughout his life, helping him overcome obstacles, face adversity with courage, and refuse to let his disabilities define him.
Those who knew Harold will remember him not only for his independent spirit and appreciation of nature, but also for his perseverance, generosity, and willingness to help others. He was a charitable man who quietly supported causes he believed in and looked for opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
Harold will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Harold is survived by his son, James Kello; his sisters, Theresa (Jeff) Tidwell, Sharon Guerrero, and Susan Hoskins; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Harold's life will be held at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Harold's memory may consider making a donation to a charity of their choice. Harold often supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and donations made there in his memory would be appreciated, though never expected.
