January 25, 1958July 22, 2020

Mr. Herschel Franklin Thomas, age 62, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020. A native of Douglas County, Herschel was born January 25, 1958 in Douglasville. He was a family man who loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He had worked most of his life as a mechanic. Herschel believed in living life to the fullest – was known as a jokester, and could just get in his truck and ride, seeing everything the world had to offer. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting, turkey hunting, and fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed roller skating. He was Baptist by faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Grady W. D. and Betty (Tucker) Thomas; brother, Ricky Thomas; and a son, Dennis Matthew Jeffery.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 9½ years, Gwen Thomas (although they had 14 years together); children, April (Timmy) Dam, Amanda Ford (Aaron Kelly), Alison (Jamaal) Jackson, Aimie (Tim) Sorrentino, Samantha Thomas, Sarah Jeffrey (Jay Moore) and Jonathan (Chelsea) Wilhite; brothers, Larry Thomas and Tony (Susie) Thomas; sisters, Ronita Adams, Glenda (Bobby) Chastain and Betty Jo (Danny) Johnson; several grandchildren; as well as numerous other loved ones, family and friends.
