Reverend James Davis Rogers, age 95, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was born November 6, 1923 in Dalton, Georgia. A kind, energetic and determined man, he loved to joke, never met a stranger, had a warm smile and a caring heart for everyone he met. He sang, played the guitar and banjo, and was an evangelist. He was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening. A meticulous dresser, he enjoyed wearing a coat and tie.
In 1941, he began his ministry as an Evangelist, attended The Bible School in Cleveland, Tennessee, and caught the “Love Bug” when he met the love of his life, Marie Hunter, of The Singing Hunter Family. They married September 14, 1943 in front of the Church of God of Prophecy General Assembly. Reverend Rogers served as Senior Pastor in pastorates in Kentucky, Ohio, Georgia and Florida. He oversaw the building of the Church of Good, which later became the Calvary Church of God. He retired in 1982, after 40 years of pastoring.
He shared that some of the greatest things that happened to him over the span of 95 years were being loved and raised by his Godly parents; the many souls he saw born into the Kingdom of God; meeting his wife at age 19 and his wonderful immediate family; and their RV trips over a 13 year period, with some of the most memorable trips to see Niagara Falls, traveling to Nova Scotia and a 13-day trip to Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 70 years, Marie, who passed in 2013; his parents, John and Soonie Rogers; granddaughter, Jenna Grace Kochs; six sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Ray) Crim; brother, Charles Lindbergh Rogers; grandchildren, Kelli Crim (Brian) Kochs and Brandon Raymond (Megan Dunnington) Crim; five great-grandchildren, Lydia Kochs, Hope Kochs, Milla Crim, Faith Crim, and Cole Crim; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel. Interment will be at 4:00 PM at College Park Memorial Park, 3600 N. Adams Street, College Park, Georgia, 30337.
