Jane Carpenter Ellis Searcy Butler, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on November 2, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born in Atlanta on July 24, 1937 to the late Ishmael and Nell Ellis and grew up in Hapeville, Georgia. Jane married William ‘Bill’ Searcy in 1957. They were married for 36 years. She lost Bill on December 6, 1993 after a long medical battle. Jane married Herbert Butler in 2000. On May 25, 2020, Jane lost Herbert to prostate cancer.
Jane enjoyed being involved in her daughters’ school and church activities, including youth mission trips to New Orleans and Panama City, high school football games to watch the band and drill team, and hosting youth fellowship activities at her home. The family camped at Lake Lanier, visited her parents in Florida, and took a family camping vacation to the western United States. Jane always enjoyed gardening and crafting. She loved to travel; first with her brother and sister-in-law to overseas places such as Paris and Denmark, and then with Herbert to all 48 continental states in their motor home.
Jane is survived by her brother Jack Ellis (Lolly) and her daughters, Laura Searcy, Lisa Lindly (Doug), Linda Kellogg (the late Rob Kellogg) and Leigh Sims (Darin). She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Shannon (Ryan), Phillip, Jessica (Ryan), Kyle (Alyssia), Kaitlyn, Hannah (Jackson), Lauren (Spencer) and Dillon (the late Faith Sims). She happily welcomed 11 great grandchildren, Brianna, Tucker, Lucia, Isabella, Tanner, Natalie, Kailin, Miles, Jameson, Emmy, and Mateo. Jane developed a close relationship with Herbert’s children, Cindy Williams (the late Tim Williams), Harriett Walker (Greg), Herb Butler (April) and John Butler (Valerie). She was also blessed with an additional 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. We will always miss and love our Mom, Mother, Grandma, and MiMi.
Visitation for Jane will be held Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home, 8640 Rose Avenue, Douglasville, Georgia 30134. Following the visitation will be a chapel service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Herb Butler officiating. Jane will be laid to rest on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30310.
