Jefferson Davis Hayes

Jefferson Davis Hayes, known to most as Jeff, 62, of Douglasville, Ga, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2026. Born on June 17, 1964 in Texas, he was the beloved son of the late Margaret and Charlie Hayes. Jeff was a loving father, brother, and friend.

He was a graduate of Lithia Springs High School with the Class of 1982. Shortly after graduation, he began what would become a dedicated career with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, where he faithfully served the citizens of Douglas County for many years.

Jeff was a man of Baptist faith whose relationship with the Lord remained an important part of his life. Although he faced many struggles throughout his journey, he never stopped striving to do what was right in the eyes of our Lord Jesus Christ. Like all of us, he was imperfect, yet he continued to seek God's grace and mercy.

The parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:3–7 reminds us of God's loving pursuit of those who wander. Jeff found hope and comfort in knowing that the Good Shepherd never gives up on His sheep, continually calling them back into His loving embrace. His faith remained with him until the very end, and he passed with his Holy Bible by his right side, a quiet testament to the hope and trust he placed in God's promises.

May those who loved Jeff find comfort in the assurance that God's love is steadfast, His mercy is abundant, and His invitation to come home is always extended to those who seek Him.

Jeff found great joy in researching the Hayes family history. Above all else, Jeff's greatest source of pride was his children, Garrett and Maggie. He celebrated every milestone and accomplishment in their lives with genuine joy. He was immensely proud of Garrett's baseball career, his professional achievements, and the life he built with his wife, Maeve. Jeff was equally proud of Maggie for her academic accomplishments, her ambition, and the bright future she was creating for herself through her many goals and aspirations. His face would light up whenever he spoke about his children. His love for Garrett and Maggie was unwavering, and they remained the greatest blessing of his life. The pride he felt for them was evident to everyone who knew him, and his love for them will continue to live on in the memories they shared together.

He loved spending time fishing, enjoyed the occasional round of golf with his brother, Keith, along with his interest in collecting coins, he treasured the time spent with his friends, and he was a Master Mason.

Jeff is survived by his son, Garrett (Maeve) Hayes of Alpharetta; his daughter, Maggie Hayes of Douglasville; and his brother, Keith (Melissa) Hayes of Douglasville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Charlie Hayes of Douglasville; his brother, Curtis "Bubba" Hayes of Douglasville; and his sister, Robin Hayes Fitchjarrell of Valdosta.

Jefferson Davis Hayes will be remembered for his love of family, his faithful heart, his years of service to the community, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life. His memory will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
