

Joan Clark Garver Thornton age 89 of Douglasville, Georgia passed away January 28, 2024. Born at home in St. Anthony, Idaho on January 04, 1935, she was one of 6 children to Earl Raymond and Bessie Sara Clark Garver.
Mrs. Thornton is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bobby Joe Thornton, daughter, Sara Ouieda Thornton, sisters Beverly Siddoway (John) of Belgrade, MT, Connie Van Hook (Dr. Charles) of Ogden, UT, brothers Dr. Paddy R. Garver (Marie) of Show Low, AZ, Earl Jr. of St. Anthony, ID. and her parents, Earl R. Garver and Bessie Sara Clark.
Mrs. Thornton loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, dogs and grand doggies throughout her years. She was a founding member of
Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA and loved her Sunday School class, fellow church friends and neighbors.
As a graduate of St. Benedicts Nursing School in Ogden, she worked as an Emergency Room nurse for 41 years until her retirement at Douglas General Hospital in Douglasville, GA, where she received numerous recognitions and awards for outstanding service and dedication.
Mrs. Thornton is survived by her sister, Madeline Garver of Denver, CO. and daughters, Dana Thornton of Douglasville, GA, Jackie Rodgers (Jim) of Hahira, GA, Kimberly Hawthorne (Larry) of Phoenix, AZ, sons Patrick Thornton (Amy) of Douglasville, GA and Michael Thornton of Heflin, AL; grandchildren Andrew Welch, Ashley Garner (Brian), John Ryan Muesing, Taylor Thornton, Grace Thornton, Cole Rodgers (Alden), and Clark Rodgers, as well as great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville, GA on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm with Pastor Brian Berryhill officiating.
