John Howard McDowell

Mr. John Howard McDowell, age 81, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019. He was born June 7, 1938 in Rockmart, Georgia. Mr. McDowell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved gardening, working in the yard, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed working in his wood shop, especially making things for his wife, Frances, as well as planting flowers for her in the garden. Mr. McDowell was a member of Second Baptist Church of Douglasville, where he was an ordained deacon, minister, Sunday School teacher, and a great singer. He was very involved in the Jailhouse and nursing home ministeries.

Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Frances Coble McDowell; his parents, William Samuel and Connie Guice McDowell; his son, Kenneth Larry Williams; brothers, Ellis McDowell, Bill McDowell and Robert McDowell; and sisters, Gail McDowell and Lucille McDowell.

He is survived by son, Keith (Stacy) McDowell of Douglasville, GA; daughter, Karen (Randy) Westmoreland of Buchanan, GA; brother, Gary (Linda) McDowell of Acworth, GA; sister, Betty Thompson of Powder Springs, GA; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow 2:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Fred Blalock officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Memorial Park.
