

John Sanford Ragsdale was born July 12, 1960, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Ray Sanford Ragsdale and Colleen Bennett Ragsdale. He passed away on September 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, compassion, and service. He was lovingly known to his family and close friends as “Sandy”.
A lifelong Georgia resident, John spent the last 50 years of his life in Douglas County, where he made his home and became part of the community he loved. He graduated from Lithia Springs High School in 1978 and went on to devote 40 years of his professional life to the Wellstar Health System.
John cherished his many nieces and nephews and treasured the time and memories shared with his family. He also had a deep love for animals and was a devoted pet lover. Throughout his life, he supported numerous animal and faith-based causes.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ray Sanford Ragsdale and Colleen Bennett Ragsdale.
He is survived by his two sisters, Patti Ragsdale Kennedy and her husband, Bill, and Anita Ragsdale Bray and her husband, Kenneth; nieces Leslie Bray Vinson and her husband, Mike, and Amanda Bray Perez and her husband, Kevin; nephews Billy Kennedy and his wife, Mary, David Kennedy and his wife, Melanie, and Chris Kennedy and his wife, Janet; as well as his many beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew, along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Most importantly, John’s faith was in his Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, and we find comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, where we believe he dwells in peace.
John will be remembered for his faithful heart, his love for his family, his compassion for animals, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Rosehaven Cemetery in Douglasville, Georgia. Reverend Aaron Hornsby will officiate. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Whitley Garner at Rosehaven.
