John Henry Zetzsche, age 88, passed away, surrounded by family, on September 6, 2023. John was a native New Yorker, born on December 3, 1934 in the Bronx, New York. He moved to Commack, Long Island to raise his family and spent 40 happy years there. For the past 20 years, John has lived in Villa Rica, Georgia near his daughter, Therese Zetzsche Dingle.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy Pogue Zetzsche and by his parents, John Henry and Edith Zetzsche, his sister, Doris Zetzsche Anderson, and his grandson, Gabriel Zetzsche. He leaves behind his five children, Chris (wife Wendy) Zetzsche of the Woodlands, Texas, Richard Zetzsche of Commack, New York, Robert Zetzsche (wife Karen) of Vestal, New York, John Zetzsche (wife Cindy) of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and Therese Dingle of Villa Rica, Georgia. John is also survived by his grandchildren: Patrick, Justin, Ryan, Olivia, Sophie, Matthew, Nicholas, Zachary and a great-granddaughter, Emmariah.
John served honorably in the United States Navy, as a Medic, from February 1953 through February 1957, leaving him with a lifelong love of boats and the ocean. After his time in the military, John’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a candy distribution company which he ran up until his mid-eighties. When he wasn’t working, or spending time with his family, John avidly followed national politics, and enjoyed watching wrestling, college basketball and old western movies.
A funeral mass for John will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023, 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church Douglasville, Georgia. Following the funeral mass, John will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Carrollton, Georgia.
