Johnny worked as a forklift driver for more than 20 years before later working in the press room at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for seven years until his retirement. He took pride in his work and the life he built for his family.
He had a special fondness for his 2008 Scion, but most of all he cherished the time he spent with his children and especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for encouraging his grandchildren to score goals by offering them $5 for each one—a simple gesture that brought smiles, laughter, and lasting memories.
Johnny is survived by his daughter, Wendy Smith; grandchildren, Xavier Dupervil, Ethan Smith and Asa Smith; and sister, Faye Gordon and her husband, Olin.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated, and the family will hold a private service.
