GUYTON

Larry “Sammy” Neal Guyton, age 75, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020.

Mr. Guyton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was family oriented and raised his children with a firm hand and a heart of gold. He had an amazing smile and loved to make others laugh. He had nicknames for those he cared about and was notorious for pulling pranks on others. He was a good provider and taught his children the satisfaction you can find through hard work. He was an area merchandiser for McCormick Spices and was lovingly nicknamed the “Spice Man,” for his career and his personality.

Mr. Guyton was the kind of person who never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back if he knew it would help. He loved to shop, especially when it came to the grocery store. He didn’t believe in people going hungry and hosted many get togethers at his home. He made sure he fed everyone and would send them off with to go boxes full of food.

Mr. Guyton had other joys in life including his love of wrestling, John Wayne westerns, watching the news…at 4:30 AM and 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM – just all of it. He loved the Lord and was of Baptist faith. He was saved at Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Rica where he attended for many years. He had a soft spot for gospel music and could never turn down any offer of ice cream: he was just a good man.

Mr. Guyton is preceded by his parents, Neal Guyton Jr. (Janie) and Lois Teen Bryant Gables (Jake “Mammy”). His memory will be cherished by his wife of 56 ½ years, Joann Patterson Guyton; children, Teresa Tipton (Eddie), Cindy Thomas, Greg Guyton and Brittney Barron (Christopher); grandchildren, Karie Godfrey, Tyler Godfrey, Danielle Godfrey Leftler (Dwayne), Brook Godfrey, Jessica Theriault (Sam), Kayla Guyton Welch (Ryan), Kimberly Fisher (DJ) and Christopher Neal Guyton; 10 great-grandchildren and many other extended family members who will cherish his memory.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven. Private services will be held at 4:00 PM with Rev. Happy Howard and Preacher Marty Martin officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park with Greg Guyton, Christopher Barron, Chris Guyton, Sam Theriault, Gary Patterson, Ryan Welch, Eddie Tipton and D.J. Fisher serving as pallbearers.

Greg I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. While I have not met anyone in your family other than you I can see that from the family photos that your family truly loves one another and this explains how you are the person you are. I know that your father will be watching over each and every one of you and is proud of who you are today. May you each find comfort in your treasured memories of him until you meet again in God’s home in heaven.

Joann , I want you to know how sorry I am for the loss of your Soulmate and kids Daddy. I have already walked this walk alone with my own parents and know the road ahead will be difficult to say the least for you all, but I also know the tremendous Faith and strength you all have from God who will hold and comfort you as you move ahead without him. You are Blessed to have each other to lean on. My Mother thought so highly of you and your family along with Neal and Janie too she loved ya'll like family. I wish she could have seen you before she died as well, she mentioned you often during her last days. I know she would be here for you if she could today. I am Praying for Peace and comfort for you all as the days go on. Love you all.

Sammy was my cousin and I remember how he liked to tease and pull pranks and he loved his family and proud of his garden and would always share from the garden and from his food pantry. My kids always loved going there because he would stock them up with cookies and sweets. He will be missed by many , I love you cuz and I will see you again soon.
