Dan was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 29, 1947 - the son of the late Bennett Holt Fuqua and Inez Jones Fuqua.
Dan attended the University of Montevallo, where he made life-long friends and brothers in the Theta Sigma Chi fraternity. He went on to work in a career of politics, serving in the Nixon and Ford administrations, which led to a 30-year career as Southeast Regional Public Affairs Director of the U. S. Labor Department.
He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the University of Alabama Football. Dan spent time later in life making wood carvings, which he proudly shared with family and friends. He loved his dogs and his grandpups and was never without a special treat in his pocket. Above all, Dan was a family man who cared for his parents, loved his wife, raised his children and took great joy in spoiling his grandchildren. He was of Methodist faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Douglasville.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia “Patti” Carey Fuqua; sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Alison Fuqua, Chuck and Eileen Fuqua and grandchildren, Danielle Fuqua, Aaron Fuqua, Jack Fuqua and Conor Fuqua.
In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Fuqua.
