Lila Marie Lord Echols

Lila Marie Echols, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully entered into the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. She was the devoted wife of Bonnie Gopal Echols for 67 years; the loving mother of four children, Deidra Willis, Ben Echols, Bonnie Self, and Ginny Young; the grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 4; and a cherished sister and friend. Lila was deeply loved by all who knew her.

Lila was the epitome of a true southern lady. She was known for her quiet strength, deep faith in Jesus, and unwavering devotion to her family. She spent many years working as an executive secretary, carrying herself with grace, wisdom, and diligence in every season of life. Though gentle and humble in spirit, she was often the steady presence behind the scenes, helping hold her family together with love, wisdom, and encouragement.

Lila created a home that was warm and welcoming to all who entered. She was a wonderful cook, whose meals brought family together around the table, and she found joy in caring for those she loved. Beneath her calm nature was a playful spirit and a sharp wit. She was known for her quick humor, clever one-liners, and the way she could make others laugh with just a few words.

Above all, Lila loved the Lord and lived her faith quietly and faithfully each day. Her life was a beautiful example of kindness, devotion, humility, and steadfast love. Lila and Gopal were faithful members of Heritage Baptist Church for many years, where their faith and love for the Lord were evident to all who knew them. Lila leaves behind a legacy of faith, and family that will continue through generations.

Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in knowing she is now at peace in eternity with Jesus. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from The Heritage Baptist Church Chapel at 12:00 PM with Pastor Brian Berryhill officiating.

Family will receive friends at the church on 11:00 AM from 12:00 PM until the hour of the service.
