Mr. Mark “Doc” Manchester, age 72, of Douglasville, Georgia, formerly of New York, passed away on Wednesday, April 15th, 2020. He was born on May 20th, 1947 in Hoosick Falls, New York. Mr. Manchester was his own man. He didn’t like to follow standard norms and he walked to the beat of his own drum. He was very eccentric – dressing in cowboy boots donned with spurs, a huge belt buckle, and a red cowboy hat. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing the guitar. He was an unrestricted spirit that couldn’t be tied down to one place and enjoyed having that freedom. Mr. Manchester served our country in the United States Marine Corps and did 3 tours to Vietnam. When the draft was nearing, he didn’t want someone to choose what he did or where he would end up; he went out and enlisted on his own.
After serving in the military, he went on to learn how to weld. The nickname “Iron Doctor” was given to him and then was shortened to what many people refer to him as now, “Doc”. In the last few years, he began making all sorts of things with metal, such as a walking stick with an 8-ball as the handle and even did iron-works for other people. All of his friends loved him and there will never be another quite like him.
Mr. Manchester is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin V. and Margaret Manchester.
He is survived by his only son, Jeremy (Emily) Manchester; his brothers, Guy (Marie) Manchester and Scott Manchester; the mother of his son, Linda Butler; his grandson, Liam Manchester, with whom he shared a birthday; and numerous other loved ones, family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Manchester will be cremated and the family will have an inurnment in New York.
