Michael Eugene Hickey

January 27, 1951March 16, 2020

Mr. Michael “Mike” Hickey, age 69, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020. He was born in Trion, Georgia on January 27, 1951. Mike was an active man in many aspects of his life. He enjoyed fishing and boating, and traveling – he really liked Germany, but Honduras held his heart, as he spent the last 5 years of his life going on mission trips there. He was always serving his church any way he could. He was a member of the Pastor’s Counsel, Finance Committee, and Missions Board at West Metro Church of God. Previously, he served as the church clerk for Marietta Church of God and also served as a Deacon prior to his role as a clerk. Mike loved his family and friends. He was big into learning more about his family’s history and spent a lot of time doing genealogy.

Mr. Hickey was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Hickey and Mattie Ruth Garmony Hickey and his son, Christopher Michael Hickey.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Linda Hickey; his daughter, Jennifer (Chip) Deaton; his brother, William D. (Connie) Hickey; his grandchildren, CJ Deaton, Ruthi Deaton, and an adopted (in his heart) grandson, Carlos Leveron Hernandez; and numerous other loved ones, family, and friends.

The family will receive friends at West Metro Church of God in Douglasville, Georgia on Thursday, March 19, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church at 1:30 pm with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. A graveside service will be held at Sweetwater Memorial Park in Hiram, Georgia at 3:15 pm with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the West Metro Church of God Missions Fund, 3858 Kings Hwy, Douglasville, Ga, 30135, 770-942-5012

Mike's smile will always be with me. Mike had the love of Jesus radiate from him. His eyes would sparkle and his face would shine everytime he smiled. Linda, you and Mike are two of the most Godly people I know. You two have been the loving hands and feet of Jesus countless times to countless people. I know Carlos and his family will ever be grateful for Mike and his loving, big, kind heart. Scott and I were grateful beneficiaries of that love through the years too. Being chosen as Jennifer and Chris' Godparents was the greatest honor ever given to us. Thank you so much for that gift. I will treasure all of the fun memories we have from our trips and fun times and the times you two helped us when we were in need. I cherish the memory of the many Friday night prayer meetings the 4 of us had together. We saw God answer a lot of prayers. He will be answering the prayers we are praying for you, Jennifer, Chip, CJ, and Ruthie. We love you all so much! I know Mike is smiling in Heaven right now with Chris, his parents and Jesus. He is now experiencing everything he lived for. We can only imagine the joy he is feeling while we are feeling the sadness and grief of missing him. Praying for you Linda and family to be saturated with the Presence and Peace of Jesus. Praying that the precious love of Jesus will comfort Linda and family through this new season of your lives. We love you all so much. We are looking forward to the day we will see Mike's bright smile in heaven. God Bless You and keep you.

Mike Hickey was one of the most compassionate men I’ve ever met. He had such a big heart with a smile that matched it. You couldn’t know Mike and not love him. You could see his love for God all over his face. He will be greatly missed.

We love you and Linda always,
Pete and Kelley

Mike Hickey was, without a doubt, one of the finest Christian gentlemen I’ve ever known. He and his lovely wife Linda are faithful, giving and devoted to God, to each other, to their family, and to their church. Mike will be so deeply missed until we see him again on the other side.

Mike was my dearest brother-in-law. We were family for 48 years. He has been so good to me all these years. He will be missed so badly. The best part of him going is knowing that he knew he is a WINNER! That makes it so much easier for us mortals to lose him.
