ADAMS

Myrtle Carter Adams, age 92, of Douglasville, Georgia, formerly of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Myrtle was born to the late Robert Clarence Carter and Julia Ann Haley Carter on February 25, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She had humble beginnings in life: they lived at “The Old Homeplace” whose walkway was lined with huge boxwood trees. “Bebe,” as she was nicknamed by her brother lovingly, helped her family of six tend to the cows and work with her hands.

While still living in Danville, Myrtle met and married the love of her life, “Jack.” They later had three children: Cynthia, Nancy and Roy. Jack’s line of work in the Insurance Business relocated their family to Lynchburg, Virginia and ultimately to Mableton, Georgia.

Myrtle loved gardening and especially her beautiful hydrangeas. Throughout her life, Myrtle maintained her gentle and laid back disposition. She was very welcoming and showed kindness to others. She was God loving, family oriented and enjoyed the company of her friends.

Her sweet spirit will be missed.

Myrtle Carter Adams is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy A. Adams Jr; parents, Robert and Julia Carter; brother, Robert Carter; sister, Annette Peters and her husband, Henry Peters; and brother in law, Toolie Brown.

Her memory will be cherished by her children, Cynthia Turner and her husband, Terry, of Douglasville, Georgia, Nancy Cross and her husband, John, of Franklin, Tennessee and Roy A. Adams III and his wife, Deborah, of Winston, Georgia; sister, Lorraine Brown of Danville, Virginia; sister in law, Mary Carter of Danville, Virginia; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer McFarland, Amanda Turner, Tripp Turner, Sam Cross, Mac Cross, Ben Cross, Jake Adams and Destry Carroll; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven 8640 Rose Avenue Douglasville, Georgia 30134. Funeral services will follow at Rosehaven Chapel with Brother Charles Gibbs officiating. I have many cherished and happy memories as one of the kids that was fortunate to have the experience of having your mom as a “neighborhood Mom”. She was so special. Always smiling, encouraging and never upset no matter what messes we got into. While she may have left this physical earth, she will live forever in our hearts and memories.
