Robert was born on October, 18, 1936, the son of the late Elzie Grady Rucker and Dora Ellen Pace Rucker.
Robert was a devoted, loyal employee of Life University for thirty five years. He began his career in the maintenance department, moved up in to a supervisory role and retired as the senior locksmith for the university. Robert was the pioneer for the Christmas lighting project at the university every year, building whatever was needed to make a bigger and better lighting show every year. His work ethic was impeccable and he never missed one day of work in thirty five years! Robert was a veteran having served his country in the United States Marines for over twenty years and lived by his service until his last breath. He was a Marine everyday and his children said, “He was the greatest man they have ever known.” When it came to his family he was just a big strong teddy bear that loved his family with his whole heart. Robert enjoyed spending lots of time in the outdoors fishing and camping with his family and friends. He had a love of old westerns and in his younger years was an avid sports fan. Robert never failed to take the quarters from those that were brave enough to sit at the poker table with him.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Brian Luke Rucker, Woodstock, Georgia, Melvin and Judy Anglin, Hiram, Georgia; daughters, Pauline Hernandez, Powder Springs, Georgia, Tracey Ellen Rucker, Dallas, Georgia, Paulette Brown and her friend, Hugh Ray, Mildred Counts and Janie Medina; grandchildren, Emily, Faith, Jacob, Trey, Luke, Kendall, Angelle, Christina, Jatanna, Michael, Nicholas, Jonathan, Jason, Sarah, Dakota, Chelsea, Scott, Austin, Beto, Gregory, Dakota, Jeremy, Josh, Jerome and Jaclyn; thirty four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of forty seven years, Sallie Rucker, sister, Carolyn Word, and brother, Lamar Rucker.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta, Georgia with Brother Kent Cole officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
