Roger, or “Pops” as he was lovingly known by his family, was a wonderful husband and father. He was very active in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He made sure to teach his children the significance of prayer and often read them stories from the Bible. He and his wife, Sharon, were high school sweethearts with 58 years of marriage together. Roger and Sharon were previous members of Midway United Methodist Church.
He was a very generous man, always willing to help others, and fought for the underdog. A dry sense of humor, he wouldn’t crack a smile until he knew he had you. Roger was an avid reader and enjoyed learning new things. While working with AT&T, he was able to continue his love of learning by obtaining multiple licenses and degrees. After retirement, he and his wife decided to open their own business together in the security field.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jimmy B. and Carrie Mae Winningham; daughter, Monica Gayle Winningham; grandson, Drew Worthey; and brother, JB Winningham.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sharon Winningham; his children, Angela Worthey (Greg) and Shane Winningham (Teresa); sisters, Pat Dalton (Larry) and Ruth Kemp (Bob); grandchildren, Caleb Winningham (Leigha), Ivory Winningham (Alexis), Morgan Winningham, and Elyse Harris (Josh); his great-grandchildren, Autumn Winningham, Hunter Winningham, Lucas Worthey, and Marcy Worthey; and numerous other loved ones and friends.
