
A proud Veteran, Ron served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and continued his service in the Naval Reserves. Following his military career, he built a long and respected career in Fire and Safety until his retirement.
Ron was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 60 years and was honored with the prestigious Clara Barton Award. He also dedicated more than 20 years to Habitat for Humanity and over 50 years to the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers, guiding countless young people through his leadership and mentorship.
He volunteered with the American Society of Safety Professionals. He helped establish the local rescue squad for Earlham, IA, now known as the EMTs, where he served as Captain.
Ron was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Winder, Georgia, serving on the Board of Trustees and participating in the Men’s Group. He and his beloved wife, Carol, enjoyed traveling across the country together. Ron was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Felecia Lemke, and Kurt and Arelieen Lemke; grandchildren Kendra Lemke, Goshlynn Lemke, Hannah May (Joshua), Jacob Benton (Charity), and Logan Benton (Quincy); and great-grandchildren Cole Benton and Holden Benton.
In addition to his wife, Carol Jean Lemke, he was preceded in death by his parents, Orville William Lemke and Margaret Rudolph Lemke, and his brother, Rudolph Lemke.
Ron will be remembered for his lifelong service, leadership, and dedication to others.
