Samuel “Sam” David Melton, born on March 28, 1957, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2025, at the age of 68. A longtime resident of Douglasville, Georgia, Sam was known for his hard work, honesty, and deep love for his family.
If you knew Sam, you can probably hear his laugh just looking at this picture. He worked hard and played even harder. He loved his people fiercely and would give you the shirt off his back — with a heavy dose of sarcasm, of course.
Sam proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977, spending his service aboard a submarine. After his time in the military, he dedicated more than 25 years of his career to the R.F. Knox family as a sheet metal worker. After retiring, he continued serving his community by surveying storm damage and, true to his love of all things mechanical, spent time working as a motorcycle mechanic.
Sam was a friend to many and wore many titles proudly: beloved son, brother, uncle, father, papa, and friend. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, taking his grandchildren camping, enjoying the beach, and feeling the wind on his face while riding his motorcycle. He had a huge heart for dogs and spoiled his dog Nova greatly
He is survived by his daughter, Allison; his son, Jason; along with his four grandchildren, Beau, Analee, Carden, and Collin who will carry his memory with them always. He is also survived by his siblings, Anita, and her husband, Frankie; Kathy and Lee with his wife, Jody who will cherish his memory and the many moments they shared together.
Samuel. Sam. Sammy. Bo. Dad. Papa. No matter what name he answered to, he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Whitley Garner at Rosehaven is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements of Sam David Melton.
A memorial service will be announced when details are available.
