Sandra Lee Schulmeister

Born on October 21, 1964, Sandra Lee Bunnell graced every life she touched with kindness, an easy smile, and a deep appreciation for life’s simplest pleasures. She had a soul drawn to peace and beauty—nowhere was this more evident than in the quiet moments she spent sitting on the porch, often lost in thought or sharing stories with family as the world slowed down around her.

An avid star-gazer, Sandy found comfort in the night sky, her eyes always seeking the constellations and wondering aloud about the heavens. She had a way of making even the vastness of the universe feel close and intimate, much like her conversations—always thoughtful, always present.

Her laughter, rich and contagious, echoed through countless family gatherings. She was the heartbeat of our home, always finding joy in togetherness and turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. Whether we were at Lake Wedowee soaking in the sun, or walking the soft sands of Cape San Blas, she made every trip feel like a homecoming.

Birds were among her favorite companions. She delighted in spotting cardinals, blue jays, and hummingbirds—each sighting met with the same childlike wonder, as if nature had given her a small gift. And then there were Layla and Lilly, the loyal pups she doted on. Dog-sitting them wasn’t a chore but a joy; they adored her, and the feeling was mutual.

Sandy leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly— Husband, Mike Schulmeister, children, Michael Schulmeister and Sara Duncan, son-in-law, Griffin Duncan, grand dogs, Layla and Lilly, and countless friends who were lucky enough to call her their own. Though we mourn her absence, we find comfort knowing she’s resting peacefully, perhaps on a porch of her own beyond the stars, still watching, still loving.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend a quiet evening under the stars, share a laugh with someone you love, or simply watch the birds—just as she would have.
