She met her husband, Robert E. Biedinger Sr. (Bob) during the Korean War. They fell in love and married October 18, 1961. They moved to Mineral Wells, Texas where Bob completed his 20 year Military Career Service and they started their family, raising their four children. A hard worker, Sonya worked at Edo-Aire/Mitchell and Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. After retirement they moved to Villa Rica, Ga in 2000. Bob passed away in June 2000.
Sonya loved to cook traditional Korean food and was very good at it. She was feisty – never afraid to speak her mind or lovingly offer her opinion. She was quite funny, too, always making those around her laugh. She was petite and, well, just cute as can be. She did not know any strangers, everyone was her friend. She loved flowers, crocheting and working with plants, but most of all she loved her children and her grandchildren. She constantly pushed them to be their very best. She was lovingly referred to as “Halmeoni” by her grandchildren, which is Korean for Grandmother. Sonya’s loss is deeply felt, but we can rejoice in knowing that she is finally reunited with her loving husband, Bob. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Presbyterian Village Austell & Crossroads Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Sonya during her time there.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bok Dong Chae and Oh Ohk Ji; and her loving husband, Bob.
She is survived by a brother, Byung Yeon Choi of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Robert E. Biedinger, Jr. of Crossroads, Texas; three daughters: Janice Biedinger of Buckeye, Arizona, Sharon Biedinger Bliss and her fiancé, Tom Rogers, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Karen Biedinger Stephens and her husband, Billy, of Temple, Georgia; four grandchildren: Alex Bliss, Maia Bliss, Bobby Biedinger, and Meagan Biedinger; niece Semoon Choi-Manning, nephew David Yeon Choi, and other extended family members and loving friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Rosehaven Chapel. She will be interred at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 10:00 am.
The family encourages friends to send flowers, as Sonya loved bright beautiful flowers.
